Acting - Stanislavski and Chekhov in Rijeka
"Acting - Stanislavski and Chekhov in Rijeka" is an acting course based upon Stanislavski's system, which is widely used on all of the major acting academies across the world. The system is a progression of techniques used to train actors to draw believable emotions to their performances, how someone can control in performance the most intangible and uncontrollable aspects of h
uman behavior, such as emotions and art inspiration. Along with Stanislavski, the course will also include Grotowski's teachings of openness, bravery, honesty... The text the participants will be working on is Anton Pavlovich Chekhov's "The Cherry Orchard", a modern, challenging play that allows a great deal of imagination to be used in the creative process. The course will be in English as it is today's most widely accepted global language. The ability to publicly perform in English is of key importance in one's international career. Being able to address international audiences and presenting yourself opens more possibilities and offers more life choices, whether it enables development in education, work, acting or personal growth.
Applicants should be between 16 and 30 years old, although we will also take into consideration all other applications. The maximum number of participants is 30. Feel free to contact us about any questions you might have. There will be an audition prior to the course start date; we will ask you 3 questions like: Why would you want to be an actor/actress? , Why would you like to attend this course? , What was the last thing you saw in a theatre? and so on... and then we will ask you to perform a short monologue. The audition's purpose is to assess the applicants's acting and personality. Additionally, one person will be selected to receive a full scholarship towards the costs of the course. Otherwise, the course's tuition fee is 1200 HRK.
The one-month long course will take place in the building beneath the Governor's Palace in Rijeka, Croatia during September 2012. We will organise a PR event in August inviting all those who are interested to attend it to hear and ask about the course. Classes will begin on the 3rd of September and will finish on the 28th; topping the course will be a presentation in front of an audience in a local venue on the 29th, at the end of which the course participants will be presented with their diplomas. The classes will last 4 hours per day. Also, the course will feature a weekend acting masterclass led by an experienced, international actor/actress. We will have two additional, optional classes during two Saturdays; one will feature outdoor acting exercises and the other will be an attendance to a play in a local theatre.
